The Benefit of Using Intervention Services when Performing a Drug Alcohol Intervention or Crisis Intervention

Intervention Services

When performing an intervention it is important to take advantage of the wide array of intervention services made available to you. Many professional interventionists offer free consultations. If you decide to work with a professional interventionist they will be there every step of the way. First it is important to go over the individuals situation and what it is that they need. After assessing the situation, the interventionist can help the family explore appropriate treatment options. The intervention itself must be planned carefully and the interventionist will work with the family and close friends to develop a plan of action. After a series of meetings and after everyone feels fully prepared, the intervention can be put into action. The interventionist will facilitate the intervention while all who are present do as planned and encourage and support the individual. If all goes as planned, the intervention will conclude with the individual being directed into treatment. After the intervention, some interventionist offer post-intervention consultations, and will do check ups to see how the recovery process is going.

Drug Alcohol Intervention

For a drug alcohol intervention the primary goal is to encourage the individual into a drug and alcohol recovery program. Chances are, the individual will deny that the problem exists. They may recognize that there is a slight problem but will argue that they can recover on their own. Try not to give into this request. The likelihood of a severe drug addict or alcoholic recovering on their own without professional assistance is slim to none, and even if they do achieve sobriety, they will likely relapse. Once you decide to perform an intervention, go through with it. Don’t let them talk you out of it.

Crisis Intervention

A crisis intervention addresses victims of traumatic events who often suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. A crisis intervention should be performed as soon as possible after the event or situation occurs. The ultimate goal of a crisis intervention is to assist the individual in confronting the reality of what happened, and encourage them to move on.
