Intervention An intervention can be approached in many different ways. One type of intervention is a family intervention. A family intervention is an attempt made by family members to prevent another family member from harming his or her self. It is recommended that family members who wish to perform an intervention work with a professional interventionist. Intervening with someone you love can be extremely difficult. This is why it is important for there to be someone present who can be the voice of reason. They can facilitate the entire intervention, so that if one or more family members becomes weak, the intervention doesn’t go to waste. The key is to break through the individual’s denial of the problem. Drug Intervention A drug-addicted individual does not necessarily understand the extent of his or her own behavior. They may not recognize that they are putting their life in danger. This is when family and friends must intervene. A drug intervention can be exactly what they need to recognize that they need to change their behavior. While confrontation can be difficult, and at first the individual might feel betrayed, the end result is worth it. The intervention will be emotional, no matter what. Preparing for the intervention is extremely important and this is why working with a professional is recommended. It is important that the intervention does not come across as judgmental. Nobody likes to feel ganged up on, so everyone must remain supportive and encouraging. It is recommended that prior to the intervention, extensive research is done on various treatment and recovery programs.
